Personalizing learning at University Park Elementary School is a process of guiding students toward becoming learners. A "student" learns only when he/she is in school and when they are assigned tasks to do. A "learner" develops their own learning goals. They ask questions, are curious about life and NEVER stop learning, even outside the classroom.
At University Park Elementary School we believe it is important to:
1. support our learners in developing the necessary skills to influence and ultimately direct their own learning. This is called learner agency.
2. influence learners to participate joyfully and constructively in group processes, conflict resolution, service and community-building.
At UPark our learners are working on skills that will eventually lead toward guiding their own learning:

At UPark our learners are working on skills that will eventually lead toward guiding their own learning:
- where to sit
- how to best receive information (book, video, website, mentor, etc.)
- how to learn from peer to peer interactions
- how to set individualized learning goals and how to monitor them
- how to self-assess learning needs and styles
- how to use technology strategically
- how to learn through project-based lessons
- how to demonstrate their understanding in a variety of ways.
- how to create a learner profile
- how to use a learner profile to ensure academic success
